MED: minimum effective dose

 https://x.com/eyezenhour/status/1907880957329523090

NY Times 5x Best Seller Tim Ferris made this concept popular It's the easiest approach that NO ONE can stick to But the results are staggering Everything you need to know about M.E.D. 🧵

Minimum Effective Dose. Arthur Jones, founder of Nautilus equipment, coined the term. Tim just made it his own. Why it's so effective is shockingly sensible ⤵️

You might say this method is counterintuitive. But the Minimum Effective Dose (MED) is the smallest amount of something that creates a desired impact. In pharmacology, it's defined as the smallest amount of a drug that produces a desired therapeutic effect. Therein lies the

Tim Ferriss proved this with weightlifting. Just two 30-minute sessions weekly with proper form created more muscle growth than 5-day gym rats saw.

Barbara Neil's viral tanning video showed how 15-minute strategic sun exposure creates better results than the 3-hour beach bakers who look like leather. But it goes even deeper..

With supplements like vitamin D, studies show the optimal dose is around 2000 IU daily. Taking 10,000 doesn't make you 5x healthier , it can actually harm you. But the most fascinating example?

Learning. Research shows 20-minute focused study sessions beat 3-hour marathon cramming for retention and practical skill building. Listen to @hubermanlab here 👀 Why you should care about this approach:

The old adage rings true here: sometimes less is more. By eliminating the unnecessary, you create space for what actually moves the needle. It's cliché, but the Minimum Effective Dose exemplifies intelligent living. It's working with your biology, not against it.

Why should you care? Because time is your only non-renewable resource. The MED approach helps you reclaim it while achieving better results. Get your time back:

• Less time in the gym, more time recovering ✅ • Get a tan faster with strategic exposure ✅ • More time for creativity, less time on diminishing returns ✅ • Prevent burnout and injuries from overtraining ✅ The MED lifestyle combines efficiency with effectiveness.

Is this just another entrepreneur's productivity hack? It can be, but it's available to anyone willing to question conventional wisdom about effort vs results.

Most people can't stick with it because it feels like cheating. Our culture has programmed us to believe suffering equals progress. Here's the last thing I'll leave you with:

The Minimum Effective Dose is the definition of working smart versus working hard. And I can assure you, that plays better in the long-run for your health, happiness and results in a world that's trying to burn you out.

Will you be one of the few to actually implement it? Or will you keep grinding away unnecessarily when the smarter approach was there all along?

AI impersonating people

From Linkedin

I’m at dinner with a CEO when his lawyer calls him with horrific news. (This is a true story)..

Lawyer: “A new employee claims to have had several Zoom meetings with you (the CEO), where you are demanding inappropriate things..and she has audio recordings”.

CEO: “Thats impossible. Never happened”.

Lawyer: “Okay, well I’m sending you the recordings now. Take a listen”.

The CEO and I listen to the recordings, on speaker, at the dinner table.

Guess what happened next?

A) The CEO is lying; it’s him.
B) He’s telling the truth; it’s an impersonator.
C) He’s telling the truth; it’s AI.

…
……
……..

If you guessed A or B, you’re wrong.

- Someone compiled the CEO’s speeches and seminars
- Uploaded them as data into a voice generator
- Produced a realistic AI bot that sounded like the CEO
- Targeted a vulnerable new employee
- The FBI are now involved

The scariest part is that the conversations were each over 20min long. To the employee, they were speaking to a real person.

And listening to the recordings, it fooled me to.

That’s how good AI is getting.

I’m super bullish on AI, but not enough people are sharing the bad with the good.  Huge risks with the rewards.

Founder dilemma

Innovation is art - it can’t be scaled. Scaling a team creates a hierarchy to reduce coordination costs. Hierarchy introduces the Principal-Agent problem. Agents optimize for status and cohesion over correctness. Going from zero to one requires a founder-led flat team.
A startup founder, going from zero to one, is first and foremost the founder of a community. He devises and grows his own universe of thought and action and attracts (through vision, charisma, ethics, and determination) others (cofounders, customers, collaborators, investors) to his universe to create a community with a perfect alignment of interests.

Same goes for a country It seems like every country needs to be “president/led” once in a while (a temporary dictatorship), to get out of the political status game machine. UAE, Qatar , Dubai, China, India winning big now, because of this

Sorry Naval, I had to use Grok on this one 🤣 The Principal-Agent problem, highlighted in the post, describes how hierarchical structures can misalign interests, a concept rooted in economics where agents (employees) prioritize status over the principal’s (founder’s) goals, as explained in the Wikipedia entry. Research from 2011 on ResearchGate supports Naval’s view, showing that bureaucratic practices like centralization in teams can stifle creativity, which aligns with his call for flat teams to foster innovation.
